Job summary

Shawnee Animal Clinic is seeking an overnight Veterinary Assistant for a 7pm-7am shift to support doctors and the care team. Responsibilities include restraining pets, triaging patients, collecting and analyzing lab samples, performing diagnostic imaging, and managing medical and hospitalized cases with appropriate nursing care.

The role requires the ability to communicate treatment plans to clients and to assist with surgical preparation and anesthesia monitoring as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of veterinary assistant experience preferred.
• Compassionate, calm, team player, strong communicator with multi-tasking abilities.
• Proficient in restraining pets and handling clinical procedures is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Restrain pets as needed and triage incoming patients.
• Collect and analyze lab samples; perform or assist with diagnostics.
• Assist with diagnostic imaging, treatments, and nursing care of hospitalized cases.
• Administer medications and prepare for surgical procedures; communicate treatment plans to clients.

We currently have eight doctors of veterinary medicine and over sixty support staff between our hospital, grooming facility, and boarding and training facility. Job Description

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

This is an overnight position 7pm-7am

Pet restraint, triage incoming patients, collection and analysis of lab samples, diagnostic imaging, management and nursing care of medical and hospitalized cases with varying degrees of stability, administration of medications, effective communication of treatment plans with clients and surgical preparation and assistance.

Must be able to withstand unpleasant odors and noises. May be exposed to bites, scratches, animal waste and potentially contagious diseases.

Qualifications

We’re looking for:

• An experienced Veterinary Assistant with a minimum of 1-year experience preferred.
• Compassionate, Calm, Team Player, Multi-Tasker and Strong Communicator
• Must be able to properly restrain pets.
• Proficient in sample collection, obtaining medical histories, processing laboratory tests and radiographs, and anesthesia monitoring are a bonus!
• Self-starter with the desire to continue to advance your knowledge and skillset.
