Job summary

Samaritan Daytop Village, Inc. is seeking an Overnight Residential Aide in Bed Stuy, Brooklyn. You will support residents by sharing shelter policies, assisting with check-ins, rounds for safety, and referrals to services.

The role emphasizes calm, respectful interactions and confidentiality in demanding situations. The position requires a High School Diploma or GED, experience with homelessness or related challenges, basic computer skills, and a willingness to obtain CPR or food safety

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum one year experience with homelessness, substance use, mental health challenges, or complex needs.
• Familiarity with shelter operations or supportive housing preferred.
• Basic computer literacy and ability to learn internal databases (e.g., DHS CARES).
• Strong interpersonal skills and respectful work with diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure or crisis situations.
• Commitment to confidentiality, trauma-informed care, and ethical standards.
• Willingness to obtain CPR certification and/or Food Protection Certificate during employment.

Responsibilities

• Welcome residents and orient them to shelter policies, services, and routines.
• Assist with client check-ins, discharges, and documentation in DHS CARES.
• Monitor safety and behavior through rounds and informal engagement.
• Enforce rules while maintaining a respectful environment.
• Respond to incidents and complete timely, accurate reports.
• Assist residents in accessing services by referrals and coordinating with case managers.
• Maintain cleanliness and security of rooms; tag/store belongings when needed.
• Communicate maintenance needs to supervisors and keep common areas orderly.
• Build rapport with residents and provide guidance during daily interactions.
• Uphold confidentiality and follow agency and DHS protocols.
