Job summary

Samaritan Daytop Village, Inc. seeks an Overnight Residential Aide to support transitional housing programs in Bed Stuy, Brooklyn. You will assist with intake, safety monitoring, and policy enforcement, ensuring a secure and respectful living environment for residents.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED, at least one year of relevant experience, and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations. CPR certification may be pursued after employment, with full benefits included.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of one year experience with individuals facing homelessness or complex needs.
• Familiarity with shelter operations or supportive housing preferred.
• Basic computer literacy; able to learn internal databases (DHS CARES).
• Strong interpersonal skills; work respectfully with diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to stay calm and professional in high-pressure situations.
• Commitment to trauma-informed care, confidentiality and ethics.
• Willingness to obtain CPR certification and/or Food Protection Certificate during employment.

Responsibilities

• Welcome residents and orient them to shelter policies and routines.
• Assist with client check-ins, discharges, and documentation (DHS CARES).
• Monitor resident safety and behavior during rounds.
• Enforce rules while maintaining a respectful environment.
• Respond to incidents and complete timely reports.
• Refer residents to services and coordinate with case managers.
• Maintain cleanliness and security of rooms; manage belongings.
• Communicate maintenance needs to supervisors; keep common areas orderly.
• Build rapport and offer guidance in daily interactions.
• Uphold confidentiality and DHS protocols.
