Job summary

UPMC Chartwell in Erie, PA seeks a full-time Overnight Pharmacy Technician/Trainee to support sterile and nonsterile medication preparation, filling, and distribution within the UPMC Health System.

The role involves preparing cytotoxic and hazardous drugs under aseptic technique, managing inventories, and distributing medications while complying with regulations. It includes an overnight 7-on/7-off schedule and every-other weekend, with holidays not required.

Responsibilities

• Filling: prepare cytotoxic and hazardous drugs in sterile area using aseptic technique.
• General: maintain inventory levels daily in pharmacy stock rooms, automated carousels and dispensing machines.
• Distribution: retrieve discontinued meds and return to appropriate pharmacy area.
• General: practice hand hygiene in the pharmacy and units.
• Distribution: participate in medication distribution including cassettes and carts per policy and state/federal requirements.
• General: finalize sales at the cash register and follow cash handling procedures.
• General: ensure medications are stored safely per regulations.
• General: assist in training pharmacy staff and students.
• General: comply with HIPAA, OSHA and PBM requirements.
• Filling: prepare proper oral and injectable meds (incl. IV admixtures and TPN) for patients and administer at proper times.
• General: participate in quality improvement activities to improve pharmaceutical care.
• Investigational: assist in procurement, storage and distribution of investigational drugs.
• Filling: fill medication orders with correct labeling, counting and stocking; initial and date.
• General: provide/receive information to hospital staff, patients and visitors; refer drug info questions to Staff Pharmacists.
• General: maintain all patient information/records and pharmacy computer system.
• General: maintain documentation like eye wash logs, fridge logs, inventory logs.
• General: audit/maintain records for controlled substances per laws; store/dispense accordingly.
• Distribution: develop positive relationships during medication distribution.
• General: keep a clean, organized, stocked work environment.
• General: use computers to manage patient records.
• General: maintain automated med stations and stock; update crash carts.
• General: ensure accuracy in controlled substances records and distribution.
