Job summary

UPMC Chartwell is seeking a full-time Pharmacy Technician, Trainee to support medication preparation, stocking, and distribution under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. This role ensures compliant handling, labeling, inventory, and patient information management within the UPMC Health System.

The position includes a rotating daylight schedule (8:00 AM–4:30 PM or 9:00 AM–5:30 PM) with occasional weekends/holidays.

Responsibilities

• Filling: Assist in filling medication orders through correct labeling, counting and stocking practices.
• Filling: Assist in the preparation of the proper oral medications for the correct patient for administration at the appropriate time.
• Distribution: Participate in the distribution of medication including medication cassettes, emergency medication carts and the delivery of controlled substances per department policy and state and federal requirements.
• Distribution: Retrieve medications that have been discontinued and return them to the appropriate pharmacy area
• Distribution: Develop and maintain positive and productive service relationship during medication distribution process.
• General: Provide and receive information to hospital personnel, patients and visitors. Refer all drug information questions to Staff Pharmacists.
• General: Ensure that all medications in all areas have been safely and securely stored according to regulations.
• General: Develop and maintain a clean, organized, and adequately stocked work environment.
• General: Practice appropriate hand hygiene both in the pharmacy and in the units.
• General: Use computer skills to process and maintain all patient information and records.
• General: Maintain all pertinent documentation as required, including logs and inventories.
• General: Finalize sales using cash register and follow proper cash handling policies and procedures.
• General: Comply with Federal and State laws such as HIPAA, OSHA, and PBM contracting requirements.
