Job summary

Barnard College is seeking a Community Safety Officer to patrol the campus, monitor access, and assist the campus community. This role involves night shifts Wednesday through Sunday, with Mondays and Tuesdays as days off.

You will help identify hazards and coordinate with security and campus resources to maintain safety. The position requires verbal communication skills, de-escalation ability, and the endurance to stand and walk for extended periods.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED; 2+ years security experience.
• Valid NYS Security Guard License and Fire Guard Certificate or ability to obtain within 90 days.
• Must possess a valid state issued Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Periodically tours buildings and grounds to check doors, windows and gates.
• Respond to alarms and emergencies; document and report concerns.
• Maintain records of tasks and incidents; communicate with campus partners.
• Engage with campus community; provide assistance and directions as needed.
• May escort personnel and respond to health emergencies or incidents.
