Job summary

Vassar College's Campus Safety Department seeks a part-time Security Officer (Union) to patrol campus, respond to calls, and maintain safety during overnight shifts Friday–Sunday 11pm–7am.

The role requires a NYS Security Guard license or an 8-hour pre‑assignment certificate, a NYS driver license, and strong communication with the ability to de‑escalate. You will prepare reports, assist with events, and work with a diverse campus community.

Qualifications

• Possess and maintain a NYS Driver License for at least 2 years.
• Must possess NYS Security Guard license or 8-hour pre‑assignment certificate; license within 30 days.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to de‑escalate charged situations.
• Ability to follow instructions and procedures.
• Readiness to work long shifts and overtime as needed.
• CPR/AED and Narcan certification or attainable.
• Computer experience to prepare reports and use department software.
• Some local travel for training may be required.

Responsibilities

• Attend shift briefings and required training.
• Fill vacant shifts as needed and respond promptly to calls.
• Write comprehensive and accurate reports.
• Operate campus dispatch center and use software for scheduling and payroll.
• Assist with campus event security as needed.
• Respond to incidents including violence, theft, disputes, or medical calls.
• Train under Field Training Program and train new hires when assigned.
• Read and respond to College emails in a timely manner.
