Job summary

Russel Metals USA Inc. in Houston is seeking an energetic Outside Sales professional to grow our metals distribution portfolio. You will call on new and existing customers, promote products, and build long-term relationships while delivering value and pricing.

The role requires 3–5 years of outside sales experience, steel industry background, a valid driver’s license, and a proven ability to meet targets. Base salary with bonus potential and growth opportunities are offered.

Russel Metals is one of the largest metals distribution companies in North America, with a growing focus on value-added processing. It carries on business in three segments: metals service centers, energy field stores and steel distributors. Its network of metals service centers carries an extensive line of metal products in a wide range of sizes, shapes and specifications, including carbon hot rolled and cold finished steel, pipe and tubular products, stainless steel, aluminum and other non-ferrous specialty metals. Its energy field stores carry a specialized product line focused on the needs of energy industry customers. Its steel distributors operations act as master distributors selling steel in large volumes to other steel service centers and large equipment manufacturers mainly on an "as is" basis.

Job Title: Outside Sales

Essential Job Functions:

Essential responsibilities include but not limited to the following:

• Utilize special skills to promote the company’s products and increase customer base
• Make calls to potential and existing customers to sell the company’s products and services
• Build and maintain customer relationships in a positive manner
• Setup and maintain new and established customer data base
• Monitor technical and business objectives of prospective customers
• Responsible for negotiating and preparing material bids for significant clients by setting pricing and profit margins and formulating all plan details
• Provide appropriate communication regarding inventory levels, dead stock and new product evaluation
• Maintain working knowledge of product lines
• Negotiate skillfully and achieve acceptable profit margins in order to increase company’s profits and maintain company’s over-all financial health
• Work closely and communicate effectively with supporting both operations and sales staff to see orders through to correct and timely fulfillment
• Report customer issues immediately and provide customer support to resolve complaints and problems, while maintaining good relationships
• Monitor quality control
• Actively participate in training to increase sales skills and product knowledge
• Participate in inventory physical counts
