Job summary

Community Medical Services is seeking a Substance Abuse Counselor to support patients recovering from opioid and other substance use disorders in an outpatient setting.

You will conduct individual and group counseling, develop treatment plans, and coordinate care while maintaining regulatory compliance and supporting diverse client populations.

Qualifications

• Must be 21 years of age.
• High school diploma or GED with 2 years qualifying education, behavioral health experience, or a combination of both.
• Associate degree plus 2 years full-time behavioral health work experience.
• Bachelor's degree plus 1 year full-time behavioral health work experience.
• Master's or Bachelor's degree in a behavioral health-related field.
• Knowledge of behavioral management, de-escalation methods, crisis intervention, and defusing techniques to prevent violent behavior or self-harm.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and manage a caseload in compliance with regulatory standards and ratios.
• Conduct individual sessions, facilitate group counseling and didactic educational presentations.
• Complete comprehensive behavioral health assessments and individualized treatment plans, ensuring regulatory compliance and addressing client needs.
• Evaluate treatment effectiveness through ongoing assessment of client and supports, modifying the service plan as needed.
• Coordinate care with other recovery and community-based service providers; engage in case management and documentation, including referrals.
• Involve family and natural supports in treatment per client preferences.
• Stay current with new developments in substance use treatment as required by licensure.
• Maintain thorough client records and professional relationships with other substance use professionals and organizations.
• Serve as the point of contact for coordination of care with other systems where clinical knowledge is crucial.
• Assist in screening and coordinating primary care services for clients.
