Job summary

Community Medical Services is seeking a Substance Abuse Counselor to support patients recovering from opioids and other substances in an outpatient setting. The role involves individual and group sessions, treatment planning, and coordination of care within a supervised clinic environment.

Ideal candidates will manage a steady caseload, engage diverse clients, and stay current with behavioral health practices and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED required, plus: Associate degree and two years of relevant experience in behavioral health; OR a bachelor’s degree in behavioral health; OR master’s degree in behavioral health.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to behavioral health totaling 4 years is acceptable.
  • Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and manage a caseload in compliance with regulatory standards and ratios.
  • Conduct individual sessions and facilitate group counseling and didactic educational presentations.
  • Complete comprehensive behavioral health assessments and individualized treatment plans.
  • Evaluate treatment effectiveness and modify service plans as needed.
  • Coordinate care with other recovery and community-based service providers and maintain chart compliance.
  • Involve family and natural supports as clinically appropriate.
  • Stay current with new developments in substance use treatment per licensure requirements.
  • Maintain thorough client records and serve as primary contact for coordination with other systems.

Education

Associate degree in Behavioral Health
Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Health
Master’s degree in Behavioral Health
Equivalent combination of education and experience totaling 4 years
