Job summary

Kootenai Health’s Sleep Medicine Clinic in Coeur d’Alene, ID is seeking a dedicated Health Unit Coordinator to join our scheduling team. You’ll coordinate patient appointments, referrals, prior authorizations, and insurance paperwork with a strong focus on customer service.

As the unit’s communication hub, you’ll enter orders and tests in outpatient settings, manage demographics and insurance data, discuss policies with patients, and support leadership with reporting and expense tracking.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Two years’ experience as a Health Unit Coordinator or Scheduler.
• Working knowledge of medical terminology, confidentiality, HIPAA and electronic health record systems.
• Experience in medical office settings preferred.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate scheduling of patients and procedures, referrals, prior authorizations and insurance paperwork.
• Serve as the communication center for the unit/clinic regarding patient care, location, and activities.
• Enter orders, procedures, labs, and tests as appropriate in outpatient areas.
• Maintain accurate patient demographics and insurance information in scheduling systems.
• Explain basic financial policies, collect copays, deductibles, and self-pay payments.
• Obtain referrals and pre-authorizations as required and process charges.
• Generate reports, manage multiple projects, and assist with invoices and expenses.
• Meet age-specific needs of the assigned unit.

Responsible for coordinating activities related to scheduling patients and procedures, referrals, prior authorizations and insurance paperwork using a top-rated, customer service focus always.

Team Highlights:

Kootenai Clinic Sleep Medicine provides state-of-the-art care for patients with sleep disorders. Our providers work with patients to identify issues, diagnose sleep disorders and find workable solutions to help them get a better night’s rest.

Responsibilities:

• Complies with all Kootenai Health confidentiality and HIPAA standards
• Functions as the communication center for the unit/clinic regarding all patient care, patient location, and patient activities, and can provide information and direction as needed
• May enter orders, procedures, labs, and multiple tests regarding the care of patients while in the outpatient areas.
• Ensures patient demographics and insurance information is maintained in appropriate scheduling systems
• Communicates basic financial policies pertaining to insurance coverage, collects copays, deductibles, and self-pay payments
• Obtains referrals and pre-authorizations as required and processes charges
• Generates reports, handles multiple projects, and prepares and monitors invoices and expense reports per leadership
• Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field
• Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function
• Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit assigned

Requirements and Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma OR equivalent preferred
• Experience working in medical office preferred
• Working knowledge of medical terminology, confidentiality, HIPAA and electronic health record systems preferred
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Two years’ experience as a Health Unit Coordinator, Administrative Assistant, Scheduler; or an equivalent combination of related education and experience required.
