Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals in Morgantown, WV is looking for a Referral Coordinator to coordinate outpatient referrals, schedule appointments, and manage patient information with accuracy and empathy.

The role handles calls, verifies benefits, documents authorizations, and collaborates with physicians and staff to ensure timely patient care. Proficiency with EMR systems and healthcare terminology is essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two years’ experience in a healthcare outpatient setting.
• Associate’s degree in healthcare administration or similar (preferred).
• Completion of Medical terminology class (preferred).
• Three years of experience in physician/hospital scheduling, registration, insurance processing, or business office environment (preferred).
• One year experience in an outpatient setting (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Telephonically captures patient information for medical triage of referrals and coordinates referral process and scheduling of outpatient care.
• Receives calls from patients, families and referring physicians/offices and triages inquiries.
• Communicates with internal/external contacts to obtain patient information, arrange tests and appointments.
• Obtains and exchanges medical release forms as needed.
• Coordinates and documents all referrals to and from the clinic.
• Schedules and reschedules new patient appointments per guidelines and resolves scheduling conflicts.
• Enters complete and accurate information into EMR.
• Mails patient information packets prior to visits.
• Verifies patient eligibility with financial services prior to scheduling.
• Contacts and collaborates with patient financial services to determine eligibility and benefits.
