Job summary

MaineGeneral Health is seeking an Outpatient Practice Coding Supervisor to oversee practice coding and staff in the HIM department. You will supervise daily activities, coordinate staffing, and ensure compliance with policies while guiding performance and development.

The role requires hands-on leadership, strong analytical skills, and excellence in communication, with a focus on delivering high-quality coding oversight and staff support.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience leading a team in HIM or related area.
  • AHIMA or AAPC certification preferred.
  • Associate's degree in Health Information Management preferred.
  • Previous HIM experience strongly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises daily staff activities for an assigned HIM area.
  • Coordinates staffing assignments and levels.
  • Provides orientation, training, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Performs evaluations and disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Assesses service quality and staff development needs.
  • Ensures compliance with policies and procedures.

The Role

Outpatient Practice Coding Supervisor

The Opportunity

MaineGeneral Health is seeking a Outpatient Practice Coding Supervisor to join our team! This position will be responsible for oversight of practice coding.

The Work
  • Supervises daily staff activities for an assigned area or function in HIM
  • Determines, coordinates and supervises daily staffing assignments and levels
  • Provides direction, orientation, training, coaching, and mentoring to staff
  • Performs or assists with performance evaluations and disciplinary actions
  • Assesses quality of services delivered and facilitates staff development programs
  • Ensures staff compliance with departmental and organizational policies, procedures, and protocols
  • Performs staff responsibilities as needed to fulfill required service levels
  • Leads the handling and resolution of complex issues and complaints
You Have
  • Hands‑on experience leading a team
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, written/verbal communication, and support skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Associate's degree in Health Information Management preferred
  • Certification by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)or by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) preferred
  • Previous HIM experience is strongly desired
Compensation Information

$27.55 - $48.21 The hourly pay range shown represents the base pay range for this position. Individual pay is determined based on factors such as experience, qualifications, skills, and market considerations. In addition to base pay, eligible team members may earn additional compensation through shift, weekend, holiday, on‑call, and other applicable differentials.
