Job summary

Wheeling Hospital, Inc. is seeking an Operations Pharmacy Technician I to assist in drug distribution under pharmacist supervision.

Responsibilities include preparing unit-dose medications, reading prescriptions, handling pediatric and geriatric dosage forms, and ensuring accurate medication delivery. The role requires a high school diploma, state licensure as applicable, and at least six months of pharmacy technician experience.

Qualifications

• Six (6) months of pharmacy technician experience.
• High school diploma or Equivalent; Licensure as required by state board where services will be provided.
• Maryland: Pharmacy Technician License or Technician Student Permit; Ohio: Technician License or Trainee; Pennsylvania: Technician License or Trainee; West Virginia: Technician License or Trainee License.

Responsibilities

• Prepare unit-dose medications, deliver medications, and order and deliver drug supplies.
• Read physician orders/prescriptions and prepare medication for dispensing, including pediatric and geriatric dosage forms.
• Understand standard pharmaceutical terms, abbreviations, and symbols used in prescribing/dispensing medications.
• Communicate with patients or caregivers to determine medication needs and delivery, pick-up, or shipment.
• Accurately prepare and/or deliver controlled substances and maintain all necessary records.
• Take inventory and analyze patient-care area medication supplies, replacing outdated or deteriorated medications.
• Prepare non-parenteral medications, including oral solutions for pediatric patients.
• Label parenteral/Prescription products appropriately.
• Perform arithmetic calculations for dosage determinations.
• Prepare and label prepackaged medications and maintain related records.
• Maintain inventory and supplies in assigned pharmacy service areas.
• Answer telephone and route calls to appropriate personnel.
• Keep pharmacy service areas and drug storage areas clean and orderly.
• Certain duties cannot be assigned to Pharmacy Technicians and must be performed by Pharmacists per state/federal regulations.

Education

High school diploma or Equivalent

WV Pharmacy Technician License or Trainee License

OH Pharmacy Technician License or Trainee License

PA Pharmacy Technician License or Trainee License

MD Pharmacy Technician License or Technician Student Permit

Associates degree OR post high school education in a science field OR graduate of a pharmacy technician training program
