Job summary

American Family Care (AFC) is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide general medical care under the direction of a licensed provider in an outpatient clinic. You will obtain vitals, medical history, and prepare patients for exams, explain procedures, and perform tests and lab work as part of daily duties.

Responsibilities include administering medications, drawing blood, maintaining documentation, and coordinating referrals as needed. Must meet education criteria; AMT/AAMA credentials preferred.

Qualifications

• Associates degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination.
• AMT registered and AAMA Certified Medical Assistants are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Obtain patient vitals, medical history, and reason for visit, and prepare the patient for a physical exam.
• Explain prescribed procedures and treatments to patients.
• Ensure all ordered tests are performed accurately and in a timely manner.
• Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved procedure.
• Draw blood and prepare labs for reference lab processing and/or in-house processing.
• Perform laboratory tests, lab-quality controls, and equipment maintenance according to instructions.
• Respond to lab messages and call back requests.
• Perform drug screening procedures in accordance with rules and regulations.
• Ensure patient immunizations are well documented and administered.
• Conduct physician referrals and service pre-certifications as needed.
• Prepare exam rooms; sterilize instruments, equipment, and supplies.
• Maintain complete and accurate documentation.
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
