Job summary

Geisinger Kingston is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide direct patient care and clinical support in an outpatient setting. This role supports physicians, documents information in the EMR, and maintains a safe environment for patients.

Requirements include CMA or RMA certification and completion of an accredited 1-year certificate or 2-year diploma Medical Assistant program; 1+ year experience preferred. Training includes following infection control and documentation procedures.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; CMA or RMA certification required
• Graduate from a 1-year certificate or 2-year diploma Medical Assistant program preferred
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) required by one of the listed governing associations

Responsibilities

• Obtains and documents patient information including reason for visit, vital signs, and medication review.
• Sets up examination and treatment rooms between cases.
• Assists patient to prepare for visit and ensures safety and privacy.
• Performs direct patient care as directed, such as EKGs, wound dressings, and minor procedures.
• Prepares and administers medications per policy after competency validation.
• Performs phlebotomy and supports laboratory workflows under supervision.
• Handles receptionist and clerical duties to support patient care and medical records.
• Documents accurately in the medical record and uses EMR and scheduling systems.
• Facilitates timely appointments, completes referrals and pre-authorizations as needed.
• Collects co-payments and supports orientation of new personnel.
• Engages in patient safety and quality improvement activities.
