Job summary

WVU Medicine Weirton outpatient clinic is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide clinical and clerical support in a busy setting. You will assist providers with exams and testing, administer medications under supervision, and document test results to ensure efficient patient care.

Responsibilities include specimen collection, point-of-care testing with quality control, and scheduling follow-up appointments.

Qualifications

• Minimum qualifications include high school diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program OR graduate of the Med Ed Program OR one year of clinical experience.
• Obtain Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire.
• State and, if applicable, federal background checks.
• Preferred: Registration or Certification as a medical assistant.

Responsibilities

• Provide support to medical staff to assure patients' needs are met and outpatient unit runs efficiently.
• Assist providers in completing requisitions or forms for examinations or testing; help obtain test results.
• Administer prescribed medication under supervision of attending provider.
• Perform qualitative and quantitative tests and examinations of specimens.
• Obtain and document patients' specimens as ordered and report results to the medical provider.
• May perform POCT tests and maintain quality control testing and logs.
• May schedule and coordinate new and return appointments using computerized systems; coordinate diagnostic/therapeutic procedures.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent

Graduate of Medical Assistant Program

Graduate of the Med Ed Program

One year of clinical experience

Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire

State criminal background check and Federal checks as required

Registration or Certification as a medical assistant
