Job summary

The role requires a high school diploma, completion of a Medical Assistant program or one year of clinical experience, and BLS certification within 30 days. Prior outpatient experience is preferred; training is provided.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program OR graduate of the Med Ed Program OR one (1) year of clinical experience.
• Obtain Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.
• State criminal background check and Federal (if applicable), as required for regulated areas.
• Registration or Certification as a medical assistant is preferred.
• One year experience as a Medical Assistant or patient care.

Responsibilities

• Provide support to medical staff to assure patients' needs are met and to assure efficient operation of outpatient unit.
• Assist providers when possible in completing requisitions or forms for patient examination or testing; ensure test results are available for patient visits.
• Administer prescribed medication under supervision of attending provider.
• Perform qualitative and quantitative tests and examinations of specimens.
• Obtain and document patients’ specimens as ordered.
• Document and report test results to medical provider.
• After training may perform POCT tests and maintain quality control logs.
• Schedule additional ancillary testing and assist with requisitions or forms for patient examination or testing.
• Act as chaperone during medical examinations.
• Ensure medical records and test results are available for visit and complete.
• Monitors nurse call system and relays information.
• Provide assistance and information to patients, families, and visitors as instructed.
• Participates in Quality Assurance Program.
• Generate required patient charge data.
• Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment; assist with procurement.
• May schedule/coordinate new and return appointments and diagnostic/therapeutic procedures.
• May assure registration of patients and collect vital information for billing.
• Assist with deposits and unit correspondence; process letters to patients.
