Job summary

WVU Medicine in Morgantown, WV is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide patient care and clerical support in an outpatient clinic. You will assist attending providers, help with examinations, collect specimens, document results, and support scheduling and billing processes.

Qualifications include a high school diploma, MA program or 1 year of clinical experience, BLS within 30 days of hire, and background checks. Preferred certification as a medical assistant is a plus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program OR graduate of the Med Ed Program OR one year of clinical experience.
• Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.
• State criminal background check and Federal checks as required.

Responsibilities

• Provide support to medical staff to ensure patient needs are met and outpatient unit runs smoothly.
• Assist providers with requisitions or forms for examinations or testing and ensure test results are available.
• Administer prescribed medications under supervision of the attending provider.
• Perform qualitative and quantitative tests and document results.
• Obtain and document patient specimens and report results to the provider.
• May perform POCT tests and maintain quality control and logs after training.
• Schedule additional testing and assist with registration, deposits, and data entry as required.
• Chaperone during medical examinations and assist with patient flow and communication.
• Maintain medical records and ensure completeness and correct order.
• Monitor nurse call system and relay information to staff as needed.
• Provide information to patients, families, and visitors as instructed by the physician.
• Participate in Quality Assurance to ensure quality patient services.
• Generate required patient charge data for outpatient procedures.
• Assist with inventory and equipment maintenance for patient care needs.
• Coordinate new and return appointments and diagnostic/therapeutic procedures.
• Assist with patient registration and data collection for billing and chart access.
• Assist with department communications and mail to patients as required.
• Support unit operations and interdepartmental coordination.
