Job summary

Alterra Mountain Company in Snowshoe, WV seeks a flexible, year-round kitchen leader to oversee a high-volume resort kitchen. This on-site role includes on-mountain housing options, a 9–11 month flex schedule, and shifts that may include mornings, weekends and holidays.

You will manage staff, ensure quality, and coordinate with the chef team to deliver exceptional guest experiences. Applicants should have culinary experience in fast-paced environments, strong cost control, and a proven ability

Qualifications

• Experience managing a high-volume, quick-turnaround kitchen.
• Knowledge of food cost control and menu engineering.
• Strong knife handling and culinary equipment operation.
• Knowledge of safe food handling practices.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with regulations, control costs, and maintain our standards.
• Keep team updated on menus, promotions, and events.
• Address maintenance, hygiene, and safety concerns promptly.
• Align financial performance with resort objectives.
• Maintain food control systems/margins and menu relevance with the Executive Chef.
• Perform assigned duties as needed.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Job Responsibilities

• Overseeing up to 30 positions directly (Sous Chef, Line Cooks, Utility Workers).
• Recruit, hire, train, manage, and develop kitchen staff.
• Manage kitchen operations, quality, and admin functions.
• Foster good communication and relationships across the Snowshoe Mountain.
• Strong leadership, communication, and customer service skills.
• Flexible and resilient attitude towards work situations.

Preferred Experience

• Managing a high volume quick turnaround kitchen with ticket times of less than 20 minutes
• Five+ years in a related role.
• Food Cost Management
• Intermediate food hygiene qualification.
• Proficient knife handling and culinary equipment operation.
• Knowledge of safe food handling practices.

Education

• Two+ years of post-high school education preferred, culinary education desirable.
• Resort experience preferred.
