Job summary

The City of Lansing is seeking a Solid Waste Operator to support daily outdoor operations within the Public Service Department. The role involves operating a packer truck, collecting refuse and recyclables, and performing routine vehicle cleaning and maintenance.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma or GED, at least one year of heavy manual labor experience, and a valid CDL Group B with air brakes. Overtime may be required for snow, ice control, or emergencies.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• One (1) year of experience performing heavy manual labor tasks.
• One (1) year of experience operating a packer truck preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operates a motorized vehicle up to 35 feet in length in packer mode, with driver’s cab on the right.
• Picks up refuse bags, yard waste, and city recycle/refuse carts and deposits them in the packer.
• May operate bulk item collection trucks lifting furniture and appliances.
• Washes and cleans vehicles daily, inside and out.
• Participates in preventative maintenance and records daily logs.
