Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, through PennDOT, is seeking a PennDOT CDL Operator to support maintenance of roadways. The role is outdoors, involves operating trucks and heavy equipment, and performing hands-on tasks to keep highways and bridges safe and reliable.

Qualifications

• CDL training or equivalent certification required.
• State CDL class A or B license with air brake restriction removed.
• Active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) during probationary period.
• Active Medical Examiner’s Certificate required by FMCSA regulations.
• Active certification issued by PennDOT to operate heavy trucks and loaders plus other equipment.

Responsibilities

• Operate trucks, loaders, and other machinery with pre/post operation checks.
• Perform flagger duties for traffic control when equipment isn’t being operated.
• Carry out maintenance tasks such as clearing culverts, brush cutting, guiderail repair, and tool use.
• Maintain field records and perform preventative maintenance on equipment.
• Follow safety procedures, report injuries, and stay aware of hazards.
• Implement environmental protection steps required for maintenance activities and complete trainings.

Education

Commercial Driver’s License Training School

Pennsylvania Class A or B CDL

Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N)

Active Medical Examiner’s Certificate

Active certification to operate heavy trucks and loaders
