Job summary

American Electric Power is seeking an on-site Electric System Dispatcher in Tulsa, OK to safely direct distribution outages and coordinate with field personnel. You will analyze outage data, document restoration steps, and progress within the company’s Dispatch Development program.

The role requires an Associate Degree in Electrical or Electronics Technology or equivalent work experience, with opportunities to advance to Operator Grade 2. Shift work including evenings and weekends may apply.

Qualifications

• Grade 3: Associate degree or equivalent 2+ years in relevant departments.
• Grade 2: Associate degree with 2 years in relevant, or 4+ years experience, or 2 years as Operator Grade 3.
• Grade 1: Associate degree with 2 years DDC dispatching, or 4 years DDC dispatching.
• Electric System Operator: prior experience as Electric System Operator or Operator Grade 1.

Responsibilities

• Prioritize routine and emergency work to meet customer needs.
• Operate distribution applications during routine and emergency switching.
• Communicate instructions clearly via radio/phone and written channels.
• Work under pressure during critical system conditions.
• Respond to overtime for emergencies as needed.
• Update and maintain mapping systems.
• Support all DDC team members.
• Progress to Operator Grade 2 within established timelines.
• Participate in safety meetings and promote a positive culture.
• Demonstrate teamwork and adapt to multiple tasks in high-stress environments.
