Job summary

The YMCA is seeking an OST Site Lead in Grand Haven, MI to provide daily leadership and oversight of the Out-of-School Time program at the assigned site. You will supervise OST staff, ensure a safe, engaging, high‑quality program, and model YMCA values and child safety.

You will collaborate with families, school personnel, and community partners; develop age-appropriate activities; maintain records; follow licensing rules; and participate in training, certifications, and safety drills.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Experience working with children preferred.
• Certifications: Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED/First Aid required within first 30 days.
• Child abuse prevention training required within first 30 days.
• Must complete all required professional development and licensing training.
• Ability to work effectively with children, families, coworkers, and community partners.
• Must meet Michigan child care licensing qualifications.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The OST Site Lead provides daily leadership and oversight of the YMCA's Out-of-School Time program at an assigned site. This position works closely with OST staff to ensure a safe, engaging, and high-quality program while providing direct supervision and care of children. The OST Site Lead serves as a positive role model for children and staff and helps create an environment that supports the YMCA's mission, values, and commitment to child safety.

AREAS OF DIRECT RESPONSIBILITY

Out of School Time Program

School Year: Monday-Friday, as defined by site location, 6:30 am-9:00 am and 3:00 pm-6:00 pm Summer: Monday-Friday 7:00 am-6:00 pm

ESSENTIAL OVERALL FUNCTIONS

• Supervise, support, and provide daily leadership, direction, and oversight of the OST program and staff at the assigned site(s).
• Provide and ensure age-appropriate, continuous supervision of children, while maintaining appropriate staff-to-child ratios, during all program activities including transitions, arrival/departure, and outdoor play.
• Maintain familiarity with Michigan child care licensing rules and regulations applicable to the program.
• Create an inclusive, welcoming, safe and respectful environment for children, families, and staff.
• Establish and maintain daily program schedules, routines, and activities that support youth development.
• Develop and lead engaging, age-appropriate, educational and recreational activities for school-age children that promote social-emotional, physical, and cognitive development.
• Develop positive relationships with children, families, school personnel, and staff and communicate in a pleasant, professional, and respectful manner.
• Relay information regarding children's needs, illnesses, behaviors, or other concerns as appropriate with families.
• Communicate program needs and recommendations to the OST Program Director.
• Ensure required program records and documentation are complete, accurate, and maintained confidentially.
• Follow all required procedures related to attendance, child release, ratios, group size, transitions, field trips, transportation, meals/snacks and other program operations as applicable.
• Ensure a clean, safe, and organized program environment as well as regular cleaning and maintenance of program areas and equipment.
• Establish emergency procedures and safety protocols in accordance with YMCA policies and child care licensing rules and regulations. Implement emergency procedure and safety drills as required.
• Participate in required orientation, training, and professional development.
• Maintain required CPR and First Aid certification.
• Report suspected child abuse or neglect as required by Michigan law and YMCA policy, following all mandated reporting requirements.
• Model appropriate behavior and demonstrate the YMCA values in all interactions with children, families, members, volunteers, and staff.
• Assist with positive promotion of YMCA programs and services to members and the community.

BASIC HOURS

Hours will vary based on the assigned OST site and program schedule and may include early mornings, afternoons, school breaks, and summer programming. Regular school-year programming may include before-school and after-school hours. Additional hours may be required for staff meetings, training, special events, or program needs.

ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in a variety of environments including classrooms, gymnasiums, playgrounds, outdoor areas, and other YMCA or program-approved spaces. The position involves frequent interaction with children, families, YMCA members, staff, and the community.
