Job summary

The YMCA in Worcester seeks an OST Educator to implement developmentally appropriate curriculum for children in the after-school program.

Responsibilities include supervising activities, ensuring safety, and fostering positive relationships with youth and families while modeling YMCA values. Requires a high school diploma and CPR/First Aid/AED certifications or availability to complete within 60 days of hire.

Qualifications

• Requires CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications; or within 60 days of hire.
• Child Abuse Prevention training required within 30 days of hire.
• Experience with children (min 6 months) preferred.
• Meets minimum age standards as established by state law and the Y.

Description

Under the supervision of the Director of Child Care Services, the OST Educator plans and implements a developmentally appropriate curriculum geared to the needs of each child in his/her care/classroom/program, including the health & safety of the children and adherence to all YMCA Child Protection policies.

Job Duties:

• Supervises a group of children and program activities.
• Follows all policies, procedures, and standards as established by the law or the Y (e.g., safety or emergency procedures, behavior guidance strategies, child abuse prevention policies); all MA Department of EJ:&C regulations; maintains the program site, equipment; and required program records.
• Nurtures children through purposeful programming; plans activities that are intended to achieve program goals and outcomes, are culturally relevant, are developmentally appropriate, and are consistent with the Y's values.
• Creates a positive rapport and shared interest with all youth; models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
• Provides opportunities for youth to lead, problem-solve, and make decisions and choices within the program and provides daily opportunities for youth to reflect on and respond to their experiences.
• Provides and welcomes ongoing dialogue with parents and caregivers about their child's needs and progress; connects families to the Y.
• Project a professional image, including neat appearance, positive manner and dependable attendance and be a role model for children, families and other staff.
• Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff trainings.
• Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
• Previous experience working with children (at least 6 months) required.
• Meets minimum age standards as established by state law and/or the Y.
• CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications required; or within 60 days of hire.
• Child Abuse Prevention training required within 30 days of hire.
• Previous experience working with diverse populations preferred.
• Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds

Job Type: Part-Time

Schedule: Monday-Friday from 2:00pm to 6:00pm.

Pay: $16.00/hr Plus, access to YMCA facilities for all YMCA employees, Employee Assistance Program, and Sick Leave
