Job summary

Salem Health Hospitals & Clinics seeks a Medical Office Assistant for the Orthopedics Clinic. This full-time role supports patient flow, registration, and scheduling at 1600 State Street, Salem, OR 97301, within a busy Orthopedics Clinic.

You will verify insurance, collect co-pays, handle referrals, and prepare records, contributing to efficient clinic operations and strong patient experiences. Prior outpatient/front office experience is a plus; EPIC skills are valued.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, or five years of healthcare experience.
• Typing 60 wpm and excellent telephone etiquette.
• EPIC system experience; outpatient clinic front office experience a plus.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and visitors and provide directions.
• Handle telephone communications, paging, and message taking.
• Schedule patient appointments and procedures while managing no-shows and delays.
• Complete patient registration, verifying demographics and insurance information.
• Verify physician orders and ensure proper documentation and compliance.
• Confirm insurance eligibility and obtain required authorizations or referrals.
• Collect co-pays, balances, and coordinate with billing for financial assistance.
• Prepare and file patient records in HIPAA-compliant manner.
• Communicate follow-up instructions at check-out and reschedule as needed.
• Enter provider charges in Epic and assist with work queues and scheduling templates.
