Job summary

The University of South Alabama is seeking an Orthopaedic Technician to support casting, splinting, and patient care in the orthopaedic department at Mobile facilities.

Responsibilities include measuring and fitting braces, educating patients on device use, maintaining supplies, and ensuring infection control standards are followed. This role requires appropriate education and experience as noted above.

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree in orthopaedic technology from an accredited institution required.
• High School Diploma with 1 year program in orthopaedic technology and 2 years of experience required.
• High School Diploma or equivalent and 4 years of experience as an orthopaedic technician required.
• Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.

Responsibilities

• Performs splinting, casting, and application of traction, braces and other devices under the direction of an orthopedic physician or physician assistant.
• Orders casts and braces including measuring, fitting, and educating patient on use.
• Educates patients on the signs and symptoms of possible complications.
• Maintains a clean work area and inventory in the cast room.
• Interacts with patients, faculty, and staff in person and by telephone.
• Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards.
