Job summary

Scripps Health is seeking a Scheduling Specialist for the Orthopedic Surgery department at the Encinitas clinic. This full-time role (80 hours per pay period) runs Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM and focuses on accurate patient registration, scheduling, and coordination with payers and providers to ensure a smooth care experience.

Responsibilities include managing complex appointment scheduling, authorizations, and patient communications, mentoring staff, and ensuring precise end-of-day reporting

• Must be able to gather information for accurate registration and scheduling.

Responsibilities

• Gather information for registration including MRN assignment, scheduling, referrals, authorizations, and check-in.
• Respond to billing and payment inquiries as needed.
• Mentor and train staff on departmental procedures.
• Schedule and reschedule complex patient procedures and appointments per guidelines.
• Document patient–provider communications and assess urgency, escalating as appropriate.
• Manage patient check-in/check-out, verify ID, update demographics and insurance, collect patient responsibility, and prepare end-of-day reporting.
