Job summary

Excelsior Orthopaedics is seeking a Coder to review, interpret, and assign CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes for orthopedic procedures. You will ensure compliance with payer policies and federal guidelines, reviewing operative reports for completeness and accuracy.

The role requires an active coding certification (CPC/CCS) and 1+ years of coding experience. A strong EHR/EMR background and knowledge of orthopedic terminology are preferred. Remote work is possible after training.

Qualifications

• Associates degree preferred; HS diploma or GED required.
• Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or equivalent coding certification is required.
• Proven experience (1+ years) as a coder or in a similar role.
• Knowledge of orthopedic, physical therapy, or podiatry terminology is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Review and audit physician documentation and surgical reports to assign diagnosis and procedure codes for orthopedic services.
• Ensure coding practices meet federal and state guidelines, payer requirements, and company policies.
• Communicate with providers to ensure accurate documentation for proper coding.
• Monitor coding edits, denials, and appeals; assist in corrections as needed.
• Collaborate with the billing team to resolve coding and reimbursement issues.
• Stay current with coding guidelines and payer updates.
