Job summary

Dartmouth Health is seeking an Orthopaedic Technician Trainee to support patient care across ambulatory, OR, inpatient, and ER settings. You will train on-site, perform vital signs, assist with procedures, and learn to handle lab specimens while pursuing certification within 12 months.

Qualifications

• One year of previous health care related experience preferred.
• Medical Terminology class must be taken in first year.

Responsibilities

• Performs greetings, check in patients, and notifies appropriate provider. Prepares patient, room and equipment for procedures and exams. Take and record vital signs. Informs provider of patient vital signs and patient chief complaint.
• Recognize and treat emergency patients as a priority, assists with patient examinations and treatments, uses aseptic technique including sterilization, disinfection and disposal of contaminated material.
• Handle patient situations over the phone, schedules appointments and procedures with medical professionals. Understands limitations in dealing with patients over the phone, and involves nursing staff and providers.
• Instructs patients in preparation for specific procedures.
• Handling routine laboratory specimen, this would entail labeling, verification of requisition and packaging of specimens for transport drawn by providers.
• Educates patients on cast and splint care, durable medical equipment, wound care and pre-surgical procedures.
• Provides assistance to the physician during minor procedures, assists provider in cleansing wounds and assists in application of dressings. Removes plaster casts, braces, and/or splints.
• Participates in and/or facilitates site-wide committees, meetings, in-services, and activities.
• Maintains a positive and enthusiastic attitude towards learning and teamwork. Demonstrates a strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned.
