Job summary

Dartmouth Health seeks an Orthopaedic Technician (Cast Tech) to support patients in ambulatory clinics, inpatient units and the emergency room under supervision. Casts, braces and splints are applied and adjusted; you will educate patients and assist physicians during procedures.

Required is an Associate Degree in Orthopaedic Technology with one year of health care experience preferred, plus strong communication and ability to read medical terminology.

Qualifications

• Associate degree required.
• One year healthcare-related experience preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to read and understand medical terminology.

Responsibilities

• Applies and adjusts casts, braces and splints; assists with traction equipment.
• Educates patients on cast care and usage.
• Trains staff on proper casting techniques.
• Assists the physician during minor procedures and wound care.
• Fits thermoplastic splints or braces and inspects cast saws.
• Maintains inventory and submits charges for devices dispensed.
• Supports patient flow and assists in exams as needed.
• Participates in site-wide committees and team activities.
