Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• One year of orthopedic experience in a clinical or hospital setting preferred; or two years of related experience in lieu of formal education.
• BLS certification through the American Heart Association.

Responsibilities

• Apply, adjust, and remove casts, splints, and traction devices under supervision.
• Monitor patients for changes in skin integrity and communicate concerns.
• Educate patients and families on care plans for casts, splints, traction, and halos.
• Support patient comfort and informed decision-making during treatment.
• Advise nursing staff on traction setups, troubleshooting, and potential complications.
• Provide written instructions on cast care and complication prevention.
• Assist patient mobility using Hoyer lifts and ensure safe transport.
• Coordinate with lift and patient transport teams for safe care.
• Maintain cast room supply levels and keep area clean.
• Clean and care for equipment per infection control protocols.
• Accurately charge for supplies and equipment used.
• Provide OR support alongside orthopedic surgeons when needed.
