The Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA) Certification Services, LLC (MCS) seeks a full-time Organic Certification Specialist focused on Livestock/Dairy. This role covers review, auditing, inspections, and fieldwork across ME, NH, and MA, supporting compliance with the USDA National Organic Program.

Travel within the service territory is required; remote work is possible within the service geography.

Qualifications

• Education or experience in organic certification or regulatory compliance, including inspections and auditing.
• Knowledge of the USDA-National Organic Program standards, especially crop, livestock/dairy, and processing.
• Working knowledge of organic or sustainable crop and livestock farms, dairies, and food processing.
• Ability to communicate effectively, especially in writing.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Proficiency in databases and collaborative platforms.
• Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration and feedback.
• Must be able to travel and have a valid driver’s license.

Responsabilités

• Performs certification activities for clients including these specific activities.
• Perform technical reviews of organic system plans, primarily within the livestock and dairy scope, and communicate results to producers.
• Review inspection reports and communicate results to producers.
• Assist applicants by explaining the organic standards and the certification process.
• Pursues adverse actions with clients in accordance with MCS policy.
• Keeps track of clients and ensures auditable files are in good order.
• Conduct annual, investigative, and/or unannounced inspections or residue sampling as time allows.
• Performs material reviews of products in conjunction with other MCS staff.
• Investigates complaints to protect the organic label and pursue adverse actions as necessary.
• Participate in internal audits and NOP accreditation audits.
• Carry out MOFGA’s certification program and maintain USDA accreditation as needed.
