Job summary

UPMC's Organ Referral Center in Pittsburgh seeks a coordinator to manage organ recovery and communication across transplant centers, ensuring adherence to UNOS guidelines and AOPO policies.

Responsibilities include coordinating organ placement, donor surgical recovery, presenting activity to the Patient Selection Committee, evaluating offers, maintaining forms, and supporting education programs for transplant staff.

Qualifications

• Nursing degree or EMT/Surgical tech or paramedic certification required.
• Bachelor's degree with 1 year organ procurement experience considered.
• High school diploma with relevant organ procurement experience accepted.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate placement of organs between local transplant centers following UNOS guidelines.
• Coordinate and monitor donor surgical recovery in the operating room.
• Present weekly activity at Patient Selection Committee meetings for all transplant disciplines.
• Evaluate and communicates all import organ offers.
• Complete and maintain all data forms required for recovery and transplant services.
• Coordinate recovery process with other UPMC transplant staff members and host OPO.
• Remain updated on UNOS, AOPO and UPMC policies.
• Provide written and verbal feedback to all related persons within 72 hours of recovery and transplantation.
• Support transplant center Living Donor Program.
• Assist with development and implementation of professional education programs for transplant needs.
• Coordinate and document organ referral calls.

Education

Associate's Degree in Nursing

EMT or Surgical OR Technician program

Paramedic Certification

Bachelor's degree in Science plus 1 year related experience

High school diploma plus 3 years organ procurement experience
