Allied OMS in Jackson, TN is seeking a dedicated Surgical Assistant to support oral surgeons throughout the surgical process. You will prepare and sterilize instruments, set up the operating room, and assist during procedures, with post-operative care and patient education.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a dental assistant program preferred.
• X-ray license required.
• Current CPR/BLS certification required; RDA and/or DAANCE certification is a plus.
• Minimum of 1 year in a surgical or dental assisting role, preferably in oral & maxillofacial surgery.
• Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) systems, radiography (CBCT, panoramic X-rays), and surgical instrument handling.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Strong commitment to patient care and confidentiality
• Strong attention to detail

Responsibilities

• Preoperative duties: prepare and sterilize instruments; set up OR; review medical histories; provide preoperative education; assist in anesthesia under supervision.
• Intraoperative duties: assist surgeon, handle instruments, retract tissues, monitor vital signs, maintain a clear surgical field, follow infection control protocols.
• Postoperative duties: assist in recovery, provide post-op instructions, schedule follow-ups, restock the suite; proper disposal of biohazardous materials.
• Patient care: address questions with empathy; provide pre- and post-operative support.
• Radiography: take dental radiographs; adhere to safety protocols to minimize exposure.
• Infection control: follow procedures to maintain a clean and safe environment.
• Additional responsibilities: maintain records, input data in EMR, manage inventory, coordinate with front office, attend staff meetings.
