Job summary

The University of Kentucky is seeking a Surgical Technologist to join the operating room team. The role involves scrubbing in on a variety of surgeries, maintaining a sterile field, and assisting with instrument transfers and case counts.

You will coordinate supplies, prep rooms, and support the circulating nurse as needed. Candidates with accredited training or extensive OR experience are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

• Graduate from a CAAHEP/ABHES accredited program of surgical technology; or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with at least 10 years in a Surgical Technician/Technologist role; or completion of a Surgical Technologist Certificate program and certified through AAН, NHWA, or NCCT; or NBSTSA certified; or military training program; or UKHC employee already in Surgical Technician/Technologist role as of 09/17/2016.

Responsibilities

• Pass surgical instruments in operating room.
• Maintain sterile field and assist/perform surgical case counts.
• Obtains necessary supplies/instruments for cases and checks for completeness and working order.
• Opens room independently or with circulating nurse depending on case complexity.
• Sets up and maintains sterile field until patient exits the room.
• Maintains neat and orderly sterile field during each case.
• Passes instruments to surgeons and anticipates needs.
• Monitors for breaks in sterile technique and takes corrective action.
• Performs counts in accordance with policy.
