Job summary

Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen, Texas is seeking an RN for perioperative care in the Operating Room. The role involves evaluating patients pre‑op, preparing for surgery, and delivering high-quality, patient-centered nursing care.

Responsibilities include patient and family education, adherence to universal protocols, and active collaboration with surgeons, nurses, and techs. A BSN/ASN and active RN license with ACLS/BLS/PALS is required within 6 months of hire.

Qualifications

• RN with active license; ACLS/BLS/PALS certifications
• Associate or BSN degree in nursing
• Commitment to perioperative patient care and safety
• Ability to work in a collaborative operating room team

Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients prior to surgery
• Educate patients and families about perioperative process
• Prepare patients including IV therapy and preoperative meds
• Assist with surgical site verification and universal protocols
• Recognize and respond to patient emergencies
• Deliver high-quality, patient-centered nursing care with evidence-based practice
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to ensure safe care
• Monitor patient condition and document changes during shift
• Educate patients and families on conditions, treatment and follow-up
