Job summary

VSP Vision in Elgin, TX is seeking a dedicated patient care assistant to support the optometrist during eye examinations, pre-testing, and patient education. You will gather patient history, operate clinical instruments, and help guide patients through the exam and eyewear process.

This on-site role requires 1–2 years of related experience, strong MS Office skills, and excellent verbal and written communication to coordinate with doctors and staff.

Qualifications

• One to two years of experience in related field.
• Working knowledge of MS Office package.
• Excellent interpersonal and rapport-building skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication to prioritize multiple tasks and coordinate with team.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients before the examination by gathering information about the patient’s vision and medical history, explaining the exam process, and documenting all needed information in the patient’s record.
• Operate technology and clinical instruments to take measurements and perform tests for the vision exam preparation.
• Perform contact lens insertion; educate and train patients on insertion and removal.
• Order contact lenses and manage trials inventory.
• Administer topical ophthalmic and dilation medications.
• Scribe for the doctor and translate as needed.
• Prioritize patient care and flow while communicating with doctors, staff, and patients.
• Assist in other office areas as necessary (phones, insurance, check-in/out).
• Work on special projects and cross-train in different departments.
