Job summary

Indian Health Service seeks an Optometrist to perform comprehensive eye examinations, diagnose and treat ocular diseases, and provide emergency ocular care in various settings. This federal role requires NBEO licensure, a Doctor of Optometry, and adherence to background and security requirements.

Positions may include recruitment or relocation incentives and a required service agreement. Candidates must meet basic qualifications and be eligible for federal employment, including E-Verify.

Qualifications

• Education: Doctor of Optometry from an ACOE‑accredited program.
• Licensure: NBEO passing score and current unrestricted license in the U.S., DC, PR, or a U.S. territory.
• GS‑11/12 qualifications include residency or 1 year of professional optometrist experience.
• Must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date.

Responsibilities

• Provide full range of professional optometric duties, including exams, diagnosis and treatment of diseases and disorders of the visual system.
• Diagnose and treat a wide range of eye diseases.
• Provide comprehensive primary eye care, including examination, diagnosis and treatment of ocular diseases.
• Provide emergency ocular care in outpatient and inpatient settings.
