Job summary

Thorlabs Ultrafast Optoelectronics (UFO) in Ann Arbor is seeking an entry to early-career Mechanical Engineer to assist in optomechanical design and documentation development for components and instrumentation.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, create and maintain documentation, and help with testing and validation per plans. A BS in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering or related field is required, with up to 4 years of experience.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field required.
• Entry level to 4 years of experience in optomechanical design.
• Working knowledge of SolidWorks or similar CAD software; SolidWorks Simulation or similar FEA experience preferred.
• Familiarity with PLM systems for managing part documentation; willingness to develop proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Assist in development of optomechanical solutions for components and instrumentation under supervision.
• Create documentation for parts in advanced optomechanical solutions while learning documentation best practices.
• Perform testing and analysis of components and instrumentation under supervision per documented validation plans.
• Coordinate cross-departments to ensure mechanical designs meet optical and electrical requirements.
