Job summary

IPG Photonics in Oxford, MA is seeking an R&D technician to assist daily operations with testing and manufacture of laser systems, and with ongoing R&D projects.

The role is hands-on in an R&D laboratory requiring knowledge of optical and opto-mechanical components, careful handling, and strong attention to detail. You will maintain records and documentation and work with analytical instruments such as power meters, beam profilers, spectrometers, and oscilloscopes.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or equivalent in optics, engineering, physics or related technical disciplines.
• Ability to handle precision opto-mechanical components.
• Ability to read optical and mechanical schematics and follow instructions.
• Previous Cleanroom experience.
• Proficient with MS Office (Excel, Word).
• Strong technical writing and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Assemble precision opto-mechanical and optical sub-assemblies.
• Inspect and test incoming optics.
• Test optical assemblies for compliance with requirements.
• Support the precision assembly work center when capacity is low.
• Assist in creating product or sub-assembly documentation and work instructions.
• Provide feedback to engineering on documentation errors.
• Assist in completing ERP work orders for proper processing and costing.
