Job summary

IPG Photonics in Oxford, MA is seeking an R&D technician to assist with testing and manufacture of laser systems, and to contribute to ongoing R&D projects. This hands-on role requires basic optics handling, documentation, and meticulous work in a laboratory setting.

The successful candidate will be systematic, organized, able to maintain records, and proficient with instrumentation such as power meters, beam profilers, spectrometers, optical spectrum analyzers, and oscilloscopes.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher in optics, engineering, physics, or related technical discipline.
• Ability to handle precision opto-mechanical components.
• Ability to read optical and mechanical schematics and follow written/verbal instructions.
• Previous cleanroom experience.
• Proficient in MS Office (spreadsheets, word processing).
• Strong technical writing and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Assemble precision opto-mechanical and optical sub-assemblies.
• Inspect and test incoming optics.
• Test optical assemblies to ensure compliance with requirements.
• Support the precision assembly work center during periods of insufficient capacity.
• Assist in the generation of new product or sub-assembly documentation and work instructions.
• Provide feedback to engineering regarding errors or omissions in existing documentation.
• Assist in the completion of ERP work order paperwork for proper processing and costing of jobs.
