Job summary

IPG Photonics in Marlborough, MA, is seeking a Production/Research Technician to perform hands-on optical assembly, testing, and basic R&D under the guidance of scientists and engineers.

You will align, calibrate, and test laser and optical amplifier products, handle fiber-optic fusion splicing, and perform electrical and optical testing. Strong reading of drawings and procedures, plus 2–4 years of related experience, are preferred.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or technical certificate required; hands-on experience may substitute.
• 2–4 years in fiber optics, photonics, lasers, electronics, or related R&D/manufacturing environments.
• Ability to read engineering drawings, procedures, schematics, and test specs.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, align, calibrate, and test laser and optical amplifier products, including prototype builds and R&D support.
• Perform precision fiber-optic assembly, fusion splicing, and optical alignment.
• Carry out optical and electrical testing and measurements.
• Troubleshoot equipment and product issues; assist with failure analysis and root-cause investigations.
• Record and analyze test data and maintain lab documentation.
