Job summary

LIGHTERA is seeking a hands-on Manufacturing Technician for our weekend shift at the Sturbridge, MA facility, part of the Avon, CT division. The 32-hour week features two 12-hour Saturday/Sunday shifts and a weekday 8-hour shift (flexible).

The role focuses on manual and mechanical operations to support MCVD production and high-quality optical fibers. The position emphasizes safety, continuous improvement, and collaboration within a tight-knit team.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Five or more years of similar manufacturing experience required.
• Experience with use of chemical/gas desired.
• Solid math skills (fractions, decimals, metrics, formulas, conversions).
• Willing and able to train in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to read and convey work instructions and drawings to meet specs.
• Mechanical/technical aptitude; interest in glass working.
• Experience troubleshooting equipment and processes is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate multiple lathes and equipment for MCVD production.
• Maintain production records and operate production-tracking software.
• Perform preform index profile tests and inspect products.
• Assist in training SFPG department staff in MCVD processes.
• Handle and transport corrosive chemicals used in MCVD manufacturing.
• Read GDS schematics and check for leaks and worn parts.
• Document manufacturing procedures and adjust recipe parameters as needed.
• Support process improvements and align with department goals.
