Job summary

Xcimer Energy is seeking an Optical Engineer to help build state-of-the-art UV laser systems for laser-driven inertial fusion at our Denver, CO headquarters. You will own optical architectures, drive performance, and lead integration and test campaigns with a small, highly motivated team.

You will collaborate with optical, electrical, and mechanical engineers, set requirements, manage sourcing, and push precision alignment across beamlines and diagnostics to deliver reliable, high-performance

Qualifications

• Education: B.S. degree in optical engineering, or related field.
• Experience: 5+ years of optical engineering experience
• Ownership of an optical system from concept through hardware, including setting requirements, sourcing and fabrication, and leading verification and validation
• Proficiency in optical design software (FRED & Zemax preferred) and MATLAB or Python
• Proficiency in optical system tolerancing based on fabrication limits and statistical performance representations
• Fluency in optical design using best practices and optimization methods
• Experience in optical system integration and precision alignment using common instrumentation
• Experience in optical metrology including interferometry, scatter, and inspection
• Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Own the optical architecture and performance of laser beamlines and diagnostic systems from first-principles to detailed design
• Build analyses of beamlines and diagnostics including alignment design and tolerancing
• Set optical performance requirements and lead opto-mechanical design iterations
• Collaborate with optical physicists, electrical, and mechanical engineers on active beam control systems
• Source optics and build supplier relationships to support the program roadmap
• Lead integration, precision alignment, and test campaigns for laser and diagnostics systems
