Job summary

Tundra Technical Solutions is seeking a data engineering professional to manage BigQuery environments and multi-cloud deployments. You will optimize queries, govern data security, and implement scalable data solutions across projects.

Role involves IaC with Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, and use of Dataflow/Datastream for ingestion. Strong SQL skills and IAM governance are essential for success.

Qualifications

Job description

Manage BigQuery datasets, tables, views, and authorized views.

Implement and maintain data retention and partitioning policies.

Monitor slots allocation and manage reservation configurations.

Set up and maintain BigQuery Omni for multi-cloud deployments if required.

Performance & Cost Optimization

• Optimize query performance using clustering and partitioning.
• Analyze execution plans to eliminate full table scans.
• Monitor and minimize GCP slot utilization and query costs.
• Implement materialized views and search indexes to accelerate queries.

Security & Governance

• Enforce Identity and Access Management (IAM) roles and permissions.
• Implement row-level and column-level security policies.
• Audit data access patterns using Cloud Logging and Data Plex.
• Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).

Data Integration & Operations

• Collaborate with Data Engineers to optimize ingestion pipelines (Dataflow, Datastream).
• Manage data replication, backup, and disaster recovery strategies.
• Troubleshoot complex SQL queries and data loading failures.
• Automate administrative tasks using Python, Bash, or Terraform.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Technical Expertise

• Strong mastery of Google BigQuery architecture and storage mechanics.
• Advanced SQL optimization and query tuning skills.
• Proficiency in GCP CLI (gcloud) and BigQuery command-line tool (bq).
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform.
• Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts (Star/Snowflake schema).

Experience & Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 3+ years of hands‑on experience specifically administering GCP BigQuery.
• 5+ years of total experience in Database Administration or Data Engineering.
• Experience with CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Jenkins).

Preferred Certifications

• Google Cloud Certified Professional Data Engineer.
• Google Cloud Certified Professional Cloud Architec

L1 and L2 support

• Candidate should be able to work in rolling shifts to do the support
• L1 support : Receiving requests via phone, email, or chat, and logging tickets in systems , Operates strictly using predefined scripts, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Service-Level Agreements (SLAs). Issues that cannot be resolved quickly are escalated to L2
• L2 Support: Conducting in-depth problem analysis and performing complex system configurations. Uses log analysis, diagnostic tools, and technical competency to get to the root of an issue rather than just treating the symptoms. L2 also frequently acts as the bridge between the end‑user and L3 software engineers or development

The pay range that the employer in good faith reasonably expects to pay for this position is $41.61/hour - $65.01/hour. Our benefits include medical, dental, vision and retirement benefits. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis.
