Job summary

Southern Vitreoretinal Associates is seeking a Certified Coder to join our Central Billing Office in Tallahassee. The role focuses on accurate coding, timely charge processing, and compliant claim submission in a hands-on, in-person environment.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, self-motivated, and capable of working with minimal supervision while maintaining high accuracy and meeting deadlines. Experience with EHR systems and payer rules is preferred.

Qualifications

• Valid medical coding certification such as CPC, COC, CCS, or CCS-P required
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Prior experience in medical coding, medical billing, or Revenue Cycle operations preferred
• Working knowledge of EHR and medical billing software
• Experience with ModMed EHR preferred
• Understanding of private insurance rules, payer requirements, and medical billing regulations
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel)
• Strong understanding of medical terminology and coding principles
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently, prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines
• Ability to research issues and follow through to resolution

Responsibilities

• Review charges daily for accuracy and timely processing
• Enter surgery and ROP charges into Practice Management system
• Review and resolve claim rejections from the clearinghouse
• Correct coding or billing issues to ensure clean claims submission
• Respond to coding questions from physicians and staff
• Handle clinic-submitted tasks related to coding, charges, and billing issues
• Reconcile missed charge reports to identify discrepancies
• Communicate updates on payer policies and billing guidelines to staff
• Create and distribute coding and billing education communications
• Run reports and assist with departmental projects as needed
• Use Excel to organize, track, and report information
• Maintain documentation related to coding, billing, and responsibilities
• Manage multiple assignments and deadlines with accuracy
• Take ownership and provide follow-up and communication when needed
