Qualifications

  • High school diploma is required.
  • Completion of Michigan Medicine's 12-week training program or related ophthalmic experience.
  • COA certification must be obtained within one year of employment.
  • Primary Source Verification is required for this classification.

Responsibilities

  • Measure pupil responses and visual acuity.
  • Perform lensometry, keratometry, tonometry and related tests.
  • Take patient histories and scribe for physicians.
  • Record vitals and administer eye drops as directed.
  • Prepare and update records for follow-up research data.
  • Schedule and coordinate patient testing.
  • Maintain and calibrate ophthalmic equipment.
  • Stock rooms and order ophthalmic supplies.
