Duly Health and Care is hiring an Ophthalmic Technician in Tinley Park, IL for a full-time role, with travel to Joliet and Oak Lawn as needed. The position involves extensive data collection, patient interaction, and a range of ophthalmic procedures.

Responsibilities

• Collect extensive patient data as delegated by physician for accurate diagnosis.
• Interact with patients with respect and professionalism.
• Explain processes and procedures to patients during visits.
• Identify patient needs and unusual circumstances from patient or family.
• Consult senior staff or doctors as needed, do not exceed capabilities.
• Provide telephone support for ocular emergencies, refills, and patient questions.
• Maintain compliance with policies and procedures.
• Obtain patient history including chief complaint and past history.
• Document accurately in EMR.
• Perform ophthalmic procedures: visual acuity, confrontational fields, motility, tonometry, refractometry, dilation, OCT, corneal topography, pachymetry.
• Assist in exam room maintenance and instrument sterilization.
• Prepare to take certification test and maintain HIPAA compliance.

Ophthalmic Technician Position Highlights: Ophthalmology Full-Time, 40 hours Hours: Monday-Friday; hours vary from 8:00AM-5:30PM Location: Tinley Park Travel: Expected to clinics in Joliet and Oak Lawn when needed

Responsibilities

• Perform an extensive number of data collection functions, as delegated by the physician, to allow for proper diagnosis of the patient's condition.
• Interact with all patients using respect and professionalism.
• Communicate with patient about the processes and procedures taking place during their visit.
• Ascertain patient needs and unusual circumstances, via patient or family member.
• Seek advice from more senior staff or doctors as necessary, never performing beyond capabilities.
• Provide telephone support regarding ocular emergencies, prescription refills and patient care questions.
• Adhere to approved policies and procedures.
• Obtain patient history to include chief complaint, history of present illness, past history, family history and history of allergies and medications.
• Complete accurate, concise documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
• Perform accurate and consistent patient care procedures, including but not limited to:
  • Visual acuity
  • Confrontational visual fields, evaluation of motility and pupillary function tests
  • Applanation tonometry and tone-pen tonometry
  • Refractometry
  • Angle assessment and dilation of pupils
  • Automated visual field testing
  • Ophthalmic imaging Retina and optic nerve scanning (OCT)
  • Corneal topography Keratometry and pachymetry
• Assist in maintaining the exam rooms by cleaning between patients and at the end of the day.
• Cleans and sterilizes instruments.
• Prepare to take certification test.
• Maintain HIPAA compliancy.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or is in the process of getting certification.
• Must get COT certification within one year of being employed.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience working in ophthalmology/optometry setting.
• Fundamental experience working with standard ophthalmic evaluation equipment.
• Compensation: base pay range of $20.55-30.85 with actual pay determined by factors such as skills, experience, education, certifications, geographic location and internal equity. Additional compensation may be available through shift differentials, bonuses and other incentives. Base pay is only a portion of the total rewards package.
