Job summary

Duly Health and Care seeks an Ophthalmic Technician to collect data, assist physicians, and support patient care during visits at clinics in Downers Grove and Hinsdale.

Required are 2+ years in ophthalmology/optometry, a COT certification or in progress, and HIPAA compliance; competitive benefits and opportunities for professional development are offered.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or in process of getting certification.
• Must obtain COT certification within one year of employment.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience working in ophthalmology/optometry setting.
• Fundamental experience working with standard ophthalmic evaluation equipment.

Responsibilities

• Perform extensive data collection to aid diagnosis as delegated by physician.
• Interact with patients with respect and professionalism.
• Explain processes and procedures to patients during visits.
• Ascertain patient needs and unusual circumstances from patient or family.
• Seek advice from senior staff as necessary; do not perform beyond capabilities.
• Provide telephone support regarding ocular emergencies, refills, and questions.
• Adhere to approved policies and HIPAA requirements.
• Obtain patient history including chief complaint, past history, family history, allergies and medications.
• Document accurately in the EMR.
• Maintain exam rooms and sterilize instruments.
• Prepare to take certification test.

• Hours: Monday-Friday; hours vary from 7:30AM-5:00PM
• Location: Downers Grove and Hinsdale
• Travel: Expected to clinics in Glen Ellyn, Naperville and Bloomingdale if needed

Responsibilities

• This individual is responsible for performing an extensive number of data collection functions, as delegated by the physician, to allow for proper diagnosis of the patients condition.
• Interacts with all patients using respect and professionalism.
• Communicates with patient about the processes and procedures taking place during their visit.
• Ascertains patient needs and unusual circumstances, via patient or family member.
• Seeks advice from more senior staff or doctors as necessary, never performing beyond capabilities.
• Provides telephone support regarding ocular emergencies, prescription refills and patient care questions.
• Adheres to approved policies and procedures.
• Obtains patient history to include chief complaint, history of present illness, past history, family history and history of allergies and medications.
• Completes accurate, concise documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
• Performs accurate and consistent patient care procedures, including but not limited to: Visual acuity Confrontational visual fields, evaluation of motility and pupillary function tests Applanation tonometry and tono-pen tonometry Refractometry Angle assessment and dilation of pupils Automated visual field testing Ophthalmic imaging Retina and optic nerve scanning (OCT) Corneal topography Keratometry and pachymetry.
• Assists in maintaining the exam rooms by cleaning between patients and at the end of the day.
• Cleans and sterilizes instruments.
• Prepares to take certification test.
• Maintains HIPAA compliancy.

Compensation

• The compensation for this role includes a base pay range of $20.55-30.85 with the actual pay determined by factors such as skills, experience, education, certifications, geographic location, and internal equity.
• Additional compensation may be available through shift differentials, bonuses, and other incentives.
• Base pay is only a portion of the total rewards package.
